# How to rearrange the index

The index in Disclosure Ready is automatically generated based on your folder and document structure. This article explains how to update and rearrange it.

**Moving documents to another folder**

1. Select the documents you want to move
2. Click **Bulk Actions** and choose **Move** from the dropdown menu
3. Select the destination folder - the index will update automatically with the new folder structure

**Reordering documents within a folder**

Click the **three bar icon** next to a document and drag it up or down to reorder it. To move multiple documents at once, select the checkboxes next to each document, then click and drag the three bar icon to reposition all selected documents together.

**Repositioning documents**

For large folders, use the Reposition function to place documents precisely:

1. Select the documents you want to move
2. Click **Bulk Actions** and choose **Reposition**
3. Select whether to place the documents **before** or **after** a specific document

**Consecutive document numbering**

To enable consecutive document numbering across all folders:

1. Go to your matter and click **Setup** at the top banner
2. Select **Settings** in the left-hand panel
3. Under Index settings, check the box for **Enable consecutive document numbering** **across all folders**
4. Click **Save Changes** - the index numbering will update automatically
