Are there limits on file or folder name lengths?

Windows does not support file or folder paths longer than 260 characters by default. To ensure compatibility and reliable performance, Legal Ready recommends adhering to the default Windows path length limits.

What counts toward the 260 characters?

The entire file path counts toward the limit — including the drive, all folder names, and the file name itself.

For example:
C:\Users\Jane\Documents\Matters\Smith\CourtBook\Volume1\Submissions…

If the full path exceeds 260 characters, it may cause problems when uploading to Disclosure Ready.

Recommendations

  • Keep folder and file names short
  • Avoid too many nested folders
  • If needed, move the file to a shorter path before uploading to Disclosure Ready
